Fall in Orlando may look and feel a little different than it does in your part of the world, offering warm temperatures, sunny skies, and quite often a quiet vibe. Fall is the shoulder season in Orlando, a time when fewer travelers make their way to our Tropical Villas Orlando doorsteps, and although the parks will still be exciting, wait times will be shorter and crowds will be smaller. One thing that doesn’t change is all the fun you will have. This guide to the top outdoor activities in Orlando this fall and all the wonders that await you in our seasonal sanctuaries will help you prepare for an adventure of a lifetime!

A Walk in the Parks

This is Orlando, so you have to figure that your outdoor adventures will start with a walk in the parks— the theme parks, that is! Known as the Theme Park Capital of the World and home to the Happiest Place on Earth, you could spend every day of your fall getaway exploring a different theme park and not see it all. Disney, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, LEGOLAND are the parks you know by heart, but don’t forget to check out Gatorland, a 110-acre theme park that is also a wildlife preserve, home to our state reptile, the American alligator. Offering meet and greets, crazy rides, and a zipline that will have you flying over the alligator’s habitats, this theme park may not be as well known as the big four, but it holds a place in our hearts!

Take a Hike

The weather is somewhat cooler now that summer has released its humid hold on us, and although we are more of an urban area, the Split Oak Forest Wildlife and Environmental Area, located at 12175 Clapp Simms Duda Road, is a wilderness area offering trails that will bring you through paradise. The Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Site can be found in this wilderness area, and a 6-mile loop will lead you through a variety of landscapes.

A Long Walk Spoiled

Yes, there will be a lot of walking during your fall vacation in Orlando, but this walk can be shortened with rides in the golf carts! Golf is a year round activity in this part of the world, but in the fall and winter months, it is hard to stay off the courses. There are nearly 200 golf courses in the Orlando area, and we haven’t tried them all, but they are on our list, and at this point in time, although we can’t claim any favorites, we will say we have a fondness for ChampionsGate Golf Club, a public course that you may be very close to, especially if you are staying in our ChampionsGate resort retreats!

Exploring Orlando on Two Wheels

We’re going to give your tired tootsies a break as we recommend exploring Orlando on bikes via the Orlando Urban Trail, although if you are dedicated, you can walk or jog along the path as well. Bikes can be rented through HOPR, offering hundreds of dockless bikes, or any bike shop which will also offer helmets, making your ride a little safer. The trail itself is only about 3 miles long, leading riders through a variety of neighborhoods and parks, but with the many extensions, can extend up to nearly 5 miles. Your ride on the Orlando Urban Trail will give you an up close and personal look at our beautiful city, something you might not have experienced if you just rented a car to get to and from all your different adventures.

A Taste of Orlando

Although there are many restaurants with patios that would satisfy the outdoor activity part of this tale, we are going all in with a suggestion that you visit World Food Trucks in nearby Kissimmee. Located at 5805 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway and reputed to be the only permanent food truck park in the nation, guests can dine their way around the world, without having to step inside a single establishment! Popular with late night diners, it stays open until 4 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, making it a great spot to hit after you’ve been out exploring Orlando’s nightlife!
