Discovering that you can get luxury, comfort, and style for a reduced price is just one more way you will be glad that you did wait until the last minute to start planning your Florida trip of a lifetime!

The Best of Tropical Villas Orlando

Here’s another insiders’ tip to traveling on the fly. You may think that choosing a hotel for your last-minute getaway is the smart way to travel, but the truth of the matter is that hotel room you may find (at a higher cost, of course) is not going to be the best room they offer. Chances are the room will be located where the views are of the trash dumpsters in the back of the property or next to the ice machines or elevators with the noises keeping you from sleeping as loud guests fill their ice buckets or the elevators groan and the bells ring announcing the next set of latecomers have arrived. Every Tropical Villas Orlando haven, however, is designed to be the best we can offer, providing comfort, peace, and the all-important quiet you seek, ensuring that even our last-minute specials will be up to par with the ones that were rented out months ago.

Don’t Forget to Book Direct and Save Even More

We all know that although those vacation rental websites are supposed to make travel easy and more convenient, they aren’t known for their flexibility so don’t expect any last-minute deals there! Booking direct through Tropical Villas Orlando already offers a lower price and if the property you seek is on one of those “other” sites, we can assure you that the last-minute deals will NOT be. You are already on our page, as evidenced by the fact that you are reading this right now, so save some more money, begin scrolling, and find those last-minute deals that make procrastination so sweet!

Sacrifice Nothing

Putting off a trip to New York City could mean that you won’t get to see the most popular shows as tickets sell out weeks in advance, and delaying the planning for a Hollywood adventure will definitely mean you won’t get to be in the audience of the Price is Right as you have always dreamed of being, but procrastinating an Orlando trip will not cause any sacrifices. Disney rarely reaches full capacity and Harry Potter will always welcome guests, even those who waited to purchase their tickets at the gate. Yes, there are some rare exceptions when the parks reach capacity, but generally it is a one day thing that may happen over the holidays, so unless you are planning (or have delayed planning!) a New Year’s Eve visit to Disney, you won’t miss out on any of the fun!

What to Do at the Last Minute

Now that we have discussed many of the reasons procrastination is ok, let’s talk about some of the more unusual adventures you may enjoy during your eleventh hour journey to the Sunshine State. Remember, the usual adventures (Disney, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld) will be there for your enjoyment, but during this next paragraph, we want to talk about some more unique activities that can enhance your getaway, and these adventures are listed below.

Explore the Disney Collection, Orlando Public Library, 101 E Central Boulevard

Disney changed the landscape of Orlando forevermore, and the Orlando Public Library offers a peek into the past with their Disney Collection. Offering over hundreds of books, magazines, and pieces of memorabilia, a true Disney fan will discover that their paradise is located on the dusty shelves of a quiet library. Art, how to draw Disney Princess manuals, and even pictures of rides that have long been out of existence and totally forgotten await you on this quiet adventure.

Well’s Built Museum, 511 W South Street

The music of black performers including Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong has always been celebrated and praised but did you know that during segregation, these superstars had to stay at separate hotels when traveling? Well’s Built Museum was once a hotel that the most popular performers settled into during their Orlando shows, and today is a museum dedicated to preserving African American history and culture. Named after one of Orlando’s first black doctors, Dr. William Monroe Wells, it was also a casino and entertainment venue and the stories that it tells to are legendary, just like its inhabitants were.

The Jack Kerouac House, 1418 Clouser Avenue

The small and unassuming cottage painted light blue with white trim may not look like anything special, but in 1957 and 1958, the famed writer Jack Kerouac made it his home. It is also where he wrote the sequel to On the Road, another popular book titled Dharma Bums, and although they only offer tours during their special events, be sure to stop by and soak in the aura of writer at work creating magic. Today, the Kerouac Project sponsors young writers, offering contests that allow them to live in the home for a few months at a time rent free, perhaps writing their own bestsellers that can change their lives and that of anyone who reads their words.

A Taste of Orlando

Every vacation, last minute or not, deserves to be a celebration of the food of the region and Orlando in particular is really a foodie’s paradise. Offering an international selection of restaurants, a comfortable variety of down home cooking spots, and a large selection of restaurants that have stood the test of time, most of the restaurants listed below won’t even need reservations, so go ahead and take your time on deciding which meal will be the one you visit the first night.

Lee & Rick’s Oyster Bar, 5621 Old Winter Garden Road

Let’s start this taste tour with one of the stalwarts, Lee & Rick’s Oyster Bar, in business for nearly 75 years. This isn’t the place you want to visit if you want white tablecloths and discreet waiters serving micro-sized servings, but if you like fresh seafood, jukeboxes that play the songs of your youth only, and a sense of family and community, this spot will probably be one you visit more than once! If you have trouble finding the place, just look for a building that’s front wall is created to look like a ship, oh, and reservations are not accepted.

Flying Fish, 2102 Epcot Resorts Boulevard

Taking a turn to the sublime, the Flying Fish celebrates fresh seafood as well and offers a fine dining experience that your kids may not appreciate, but tired travelers definitely will. Reservations are required for this upscale establishment, but this is one time when we think you will find that it is definitely worth the extra effort. Save room for dessert as their Key Lime Cake is so good you may wish you had skipped your dinner and just ordered the entire cake, instead of a single slice.

Kabooki Sushi, 3122 E Colonial Drive and 7705 Turkey Lake Road

If you had told us when we were children that eating raw fish would become such a big thing that we couldn’t let a week pass without enjoying it, we would have said you had lost your marbles. But it is the new millennium, and sushi has taken over the world as one of the top dinner choices, with Kabooki Sushi being one of our absolute favorites! Offering two locations in Orlando, these James Beard nominated restaurants never cease to delight with their Omakase experiences promising to change the way you eat sushi forevermore.

When the Sun Sets on Your Last-Minute Getaway

If you still have the energy after a day at the parks, Orlando’s nightlife promises to offer a fantastic experience that will be enjoyed by every one of our guests. The spots listed below are just a sampling of where you can play when the sun sets on another fantastic day of Florida adventures.

HighT, 23 W Church Street

This spot, perhaps more than any other, represents the dichotomy that is Orlando, offering a daytime tearoom that offers a British experience families will enjoy and a nighttime speakeasy that is destined to be a memorable one.

 ICEBAR Orlando, 8967 International Drive

The summer heat of Orlando cools way down with a visit to one of the hottest bars in town, ICEBAR Orlando. Offering IDrive’s longest happy hour, taking place from 5-9 Sunday through Thursday, the bar features over 70 tons of ice carved into tables, chairs, sculptures, even glasses which will hold the best cocktails in town. Each ICEBAR experience is accompanied by thermal coats and gloves and complimentary photography in addition to the signature ice glass cocktails and ice sculptures that add an edgy note to this cool spot.

CityWalk’s Rising Star, 6000 Universal Boulevard

In a city that is teeming with talented performers, a visit to CityWalk’s Rising Star will make YOU the star of the show. Karaoke brings strangers together for a night of fun and music and being backed up by a live band makes this experience one that will really make you feel like a superstar!
