Veterans Day is not a holiday that is considered a traveling one, especially as it tends to fall on a specific day that may not happen to be near a weekend, but if you can take the time, it is a popular time for visiting our Florida hometown of Orlando. Offering a variety of ways to have a good time in the beautiful weather we experience here in November, many visitors will return home with a golden tan, forever earning the envy of those who stayed home and missed out on the trip of a lifetime. This guide to your Veterans Day in Orlando will give you a little something extra to look forward to in the days, weeks, and months leading up to your Florida vacation. Explore everything this city has to offer, including the comforts of our Tropical Villas Orlando holiday hideaways.
City of Apopka Veterans Day Fest
Veterans Day is a day we set aside to pay homage to the men and women who have either served our country in the past or are actively doing so while we speak, and although it isn’t a holiday that offers a big celebration, the VFW in the city of Apopka make sure that we don’t forget the meaning behind the barbecues and pool parties about to be enjoyed. Offering hamburgers, hot dogs, and a moving ceremony that will make everyone proud to be an American, this event should not be missed.
Free or Discounted Adventures
No, there won’t be fireworks celebrations, concerts, or even special festivals commemorating the Veterans who have served our country, but as you might expect, there will be plenty of businesses and restaurants offering free or discounted services, including the ones listed below.
Madame Tussauds Orlando, 8387 International Drive
Offering a 10% discount with valid military ID (up to 6 tickets) a visit to Madame Tussauds will make you feel like you are visiting your favorite celebrities, and in a way, you will be. The wax figures at this unique museum are scarily accurate and the selfies you take with your favorites will confuse all your friends, if you want them to!
LEGOLAND, 1 LEGOLAND Way in Winter Haven
Military or not, you will be the hero to your kids when you take advantage of free tickets for military personnel and first responders with a visit to LEGOLAND. Legos are experiencing a resurgence of interest today, with all the generations working together to create block masterpieces, so don’t forget to stop in the gift shop on your way out and pick up the latest kits to work on with your family.
Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens, 3755 W Seminole Boulevard in Sanford
Free tickets for veterans and active military personnel will offer one more way you and your family can enjoy a fantastic time during your Veterans Day escape to Orlando. Located just 20+ miles north of Orlando, guests will have a blast taking a walk on the wild side during their Florida adventures. Offering the free tickets for two days, instead of just on Veterans Day, veterans may want to go back a second time, just because they can!
The Theme Parks Too
The theme parks of Orlando appreciate our military, both active and retired, including Disney, SeaWorld, Universal Studios, and our favorite quirky theme park, Gatorland. Each park offers a slightly different program, with some parks offering free tickets year-round (Gatorland) others providing a single free ticket every year (SeaWorld) and special pricing packages at still others (Disney), so be sure to read the fine print if a free ticket is what you are seeking.
